Becoming the dancer you want to be

By: DanceVibes Ambassador, Adelyn Ferrian

1. Encourage yourself daily

Adopt a growth mindset—believe that you can improve with effort and time. Positive thinking builds confidence and helps you grow your skills. Remind yourself regularly of how far you’ve come and where you’re headed.

Here are a few affirmations to say to yourself:

  • I’m getting better every time I dance.

  • I don’t need to be perfect to make progress.

  • I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

2. Set clear, focused goals

Set clear, realistic goals to keep yourself motivated and on track. Start with small, short-term goals that build up to bigger milestones. Review your progress weekly or monthly to stay accountable.

Remember: Growth doesn’t happen overnight. Be patient with yourself—consistency matters more than perfection.

Pro tip: The Goal Growth Guide from DanceVibes is a great tool to help map out your goals and track your journey!

3. Keep growing

Celebrate your strengths while also working on your weaknesses. If you’re a strong turner, own it—but don’t stop there. Keep challenging yourself to grow in other areas too, like leaps, musicality, or picking up choreography quickly.

Strive to become a well-rounded dancer by pushing your limits and staying committed to improvement. Growth is a journey, not a destination—keep going!

How to act on this:

  • Download the Goal Growth Guide from DanceVibes to clarify your dance goals and values.

  • Develop a growth mindset by reviewing class videos, asking for feedback, and learning from your peers and teachers.

  • Be kind to yourself throughout your journey—progress is just as important as results.
